Remembering insignificance

The moon of eternal failure

Why would today’s sun
remember all the intricate details
that her golden eyes saw of
yesterday’s earth?

Why would today’s earth
deck himself in robes
that were wrought
from the light of
yesterday’s sun?

The days and nights
they flit by like wisps of clouds
in an endless blue sky.

All lives big and small
grow and fade like
the moon that waxes and wanes;
eternal failed attempts
at drawing perfect circles
by some senile forgetful god
drawing with trembling hands
in the dim flickering starlight
of our twinkling lives.

The sun, the earth,
todays and tomorrows,
days and nights
all are forgotten
in the inky oblivion of god’s skies.

Only the twinkling of
your lives and mine
stare from the feeble distant stars.
